cbi: BJP leader moves Supreme Court for CBI probe into Sidhu Mosse Wala murder | India News

NEW DELHI: BJP leader Jagjit Singh, who lost from Sardulgarh Assembly constituency, moved the Supreme Court seeking a CBI prone into the sensational Sidhu Moose Wala murder case alleging that terror is palpable among people of Punjab as law and order has completely broken down.
In his petition, Singh alleged that Punjab is now ridden with the menace of drugs and gun culture and said the assailants who gunned down Sidhu Moose Wala in broad daylight near his village immediately after the AAP government withdrew security cover, appear to have fled to other states. This would require the expertise of the CBI for a fair probe to crack the case and unearth a larger conspiracy, he said.
He said Sidhu Moose Wala, an engineering graduate, was just 28 years of age and had become a household name through a typical style of Punjabi rap. Moosewala had contested this year’s assembly elections unsuccessfully on a Congress ticket.
The petitioner said, “The way the cold blooded killing was done in broad daylight is indicative of the fact that the law and order machinery in Punjab has miserably failed not only to prevent the crime but also to curb the menace of gang wars. There is a storm of fear and terror in Punjab which warrants interference by the SC as fundamental rights of entire population of Punjab have been jeopardized at large.”
He said, the murder took place just a day after the Bhagwant Singh Mann government removed the security without any reason and mindlessly publicised it widely through social media. “Removal of the security cover encouraged the assailants to immediately attack and kill the deceased and send a message across to the community at large,” Singh alleged.
Facts of the case involve not only inter-state but also international crime syndicates and it is expedient in the interests of justice if the investigation related to the present FIR is transferred to the CBI, he said. The Punjab and Haryana HC is already seized of the matter.
