Hardik joins BJP, but welcome is low-key | India News

GANDHINAGAR: Within days of quitting Congress, Hardik Patel formally joined BJP on Thursday and compared his role in the saffron party to a squirrel who would help build the Ram Setu, drawing a parallel between the Ramayana event and nation-building. He started his speech with “Respected PM Narendrabhai Modi”.
Hardik’s induction was an unusually low-key affair. Although the youth leader reached the Gujarat BJP headquarters in a roadshow, state party chief CR Paatil and former finance minister Nitin Patel momentarily handed him a party scarf and a cap before leaving the venue. CM Bhupendra Patel was attending the national conference of school education ministers at Gandhinagar when Hardik was welcomed in. In contrast, the induction of Alpesh Thakor was a grand affair, with former state chief Jitu Vaghani welcoming him and sitting beside him to take questions from reporters.
Stating that he joined BJP without any expectation of a poll ticket and that he would serve it as a “soldier”, Hardik said he left Congress as it “does not respect people’s sentiments and distances itself from religious issues concerning crores of Hindus”.
