IPS Officer Violet Baruah Becomes 1st Lady IGP


IPS Officer Violet Baruah became the first woman Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Assam. This was informed by Baruah through her twitter handle. She said that she has been promoted to the rank of IGP.

Expressing her feelings on being promoted to the prestigious rank in the police department, Violet Baruah tweeted on Monday:  “Promoted to the rank of IGP.”

“Feeling blessed to be the first lady IGP in the state of Assam,” she wrote.

An IPS officer of the 2005 batch of Assam-Meghalaya cadre, Violet Baruah has served the police department in various places.

In February 2019, IPS officer Violet Baruah emerged as the first woman DIG of Assam Police.

On the occasion of Republic Day 2021, Violet Baruah was honoured with the President’s Police Medal for distinguished service in January.

In 2020, Violet Baruah was posted as the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in BTAD.

Meanwhile, several top ranked officials of Assam Police have been promoted in a major reshuffle.

Anand Prakash Tiwari, Diganta Bora have also been promoted as IGP.

Devraj Upadhayay and Mridulananda Sarma have also been promoted to IGP.

DIG Prasanta Kumar Bhuyan, Dilip Kumar Dey and Nitul Gogoi have also been promoted.
